The disgruntled PDP heavyweight and member parliament from Baramulla, Muzaffar Hussain Baig Tuesday warned the PDP-BJP coalition government of “creating mistrust, alienation and cynicism” in JK.

Baig was speaking to NDTV where he expressed his fears over the prospects of PDP-led coalition government. “The way the government is functioning will lead to its (PDP’s) annihilation.”

“I’m sorry to say (that) today there is greater mistrust between Hindus and Muslims in the state,” Baig said, a former deputy chief minister of the state.

“Today uppermost in the minds of people of Jammu and Kashmir is not just bread and butter but whether Muslims as a minority will be safe even in a Muslim majority state.”

Baig said that he thought that PM Modi and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed would send out a message (in the Srinagar rally) that communalism of any hue would not be tolerated but was left disappointed. “Our workers feel terribly disappointed. We went to people with a certain agenda and that Agenda is gone,” he said.

Last week, ahead of a joint rally by PM Modi, Baig had written a letter to PM Modi on “rising intolerance in the country and failure of PDP-BJP alliance.” Earlier as well, Baig along with another disgruntled PDP MP, Tariq Karra stayed out of PDP party meeting, making certain quarters to speculate that the duo are at loggerheads with the party leadership.
