Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Jamia Masjid Nowhatta on July 8, 2016

Condemning the use of force, cane charge, teargas shelling and “state-sponsored terror unleashed” on the people who offered prayers on the occasion of Eid ul-Fitr at the historic Eidgah in Srinagar, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said this was an “attack on the congregation and unity of Muslims”.

Terming the brutal attack and use of “oppressive” measures on the people – men, women and children – who had come to offer prayers at Eidgah as “a gift of the PDP-BJP coalition government to the Kashmiri people on the occasion of Eid”, Mirwaiz said, “fear of public assembly has so completely taken over the ruling regime that even Eid gathering for Namaz is a big threat to them and in anticipation they not only cage the resistance leadership but also use Police and paramilitary forces to beat up men women and even children.”

Addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid today, the APHC-m Chairperson said, “Kashmiri people would not be cowed down by such oppressive and suppressive tactics and the voice for their just rights and their freedom would continue to be raised from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid and the oppressive attitude of the government would fail to break their resolve.”

Paying glowing tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931, he said the foundation for Kashmir’s freedom struggle was laid on this day. which Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) observes with deference and admiration ever since it was founded by Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and this year “the unified resistance leadership has been decided to observe this day with unity”.

Urging people to observe the day as per the joint program to be presented before them on Saturday on behalf of Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and APHC-m, Mirwaiz called for “making the program a success”.

Terming the situation in entire Islamic world as dangerous and a matter of concern for the entire Muslim Ummah, he made a passionate appeal to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) especially Saudia Arabia, Iran and Pakistan to come forward emerge over self and sectarian issues and help the Muslim Ummah overcome the deadly state-of-affairs they are caught in.

Stressing that OIC and responsible Muslim countries were equally responsible for the situation the Islamic world was caught in, the APHC-m Chairperson said it would be unfortunate if they still fail to come forward to deal with the crisis at hand.

On the occasion, the Mirwaiz announced that from the coming Friday, the congregational Friday prayers, like in the past, would once again be held at 1:30 pm.
