Thousands of people on Tuesday attended the funeral prayers (Nimaz-e-Jinaza) of the slain militants killed in an encounter in Dardepora, Kupwara, last evening.

Earlier after severe protests and clashes, police handed over the seven bodies of the deceased to locals.

10 persons were injured including two photo Journalists, 4 civilians and 4 policemen when clashes erupted in Lalpora area. The protesters were demanding bodies and the identity of the deceased militants.

Local sources said many vehicles also got damaged in the clashes between police and the people.

Authorities later on handed over the bodies to locals for burial who after offering Nimaz-e-Jinaza of the deceased buried them unidentified. “We could not identify the bodies nor authorities revealed us their identities so we buried them,” a local told Kashmir Life.

Earlier, on Monday evening Army and police claimed that their personnel in a joint operation killed seven militants in Dardepora, area of Kupwara district.

“An army   patrol part which was dominating the general area Dardpura, Lolab was fired upon.  The patrol retaliated by effective firing resulting in killing of seven militants,” an army statement said.
