Thousands of people on Wednesday attended the funeral prayers of Mudassir Ahmad and Sheeraz Ahmad who along with their three more associates were killed by an army in Kupwara’s Tanghdar Sector.
Reports said that thousands of the mourners chanting pro-freedom slogans attended the funeral prayers of the slain militants in their respective places.
The bodies of two militants Mudassir and Sheeraz, residents of Parigam in Kulgam and Lajoora in Pulwama, who were killed along with three other associates were exhumed, more than ten days after they were buried near Line of Control (LoC) at Tanghdar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district as unidentified.
An official said that the process to exhume the bodies was started after receiving formal orders from district magistrate Kupwara.
“The bodies have been exhumed this evening and handed over to respected families,” he said.
The funeral prayers of slain Sheeraz Ahmed were addressed by Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani telephonically before he was laid to rest. While paying the rich tributes to slain militants Geelani said: “Youth of Kashmir are sacrificing their lives for a noble cause and our fight will continue till we achieve our goal.”
Reports said that both the slain militant Sheeraz was laid to rest in Lajoora after multiple funeral prayers. Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown was observed in parts of Pulwama and Kulgam against the killings.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed in these areas while public transport is off the roads.
The authorities have snapped internet services in Pulwama and Kulgam districts since midnight, while as railway authorities suspended train service to south Kashmir.
Earlier on May 25, the army claimed of killing five militants along LOC in Tangdar who tried to infiltrate and circulated the pictures of the slain militants. In the army statement, the killed militants were stated as foreigners.
