Thousands of people on Friday attended the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Riyaz Ahmad Dar, who was killed along with his associate in a gunfight in Drusoo village.

Hundreds of people from Naseerabad, Arampora, Chinkipora and other adjoining localities assembled at Maharajpora when the slain militant’s body was brought to his native place this afternoon, reports said.

The body was taken to Darul-uloom Maharajpora, where funeral prayers were offered, they said.

Large numbers of mourners carried Dar’s body in a procession to martyrs’ graveyard Chinkipora for burial.

Dar and his associate Khurshid Ahmad Malik from south Kashmir’s Pulwama were killed in a fierce encounter in Drusoo area here. One soldier was also killed in the gun-battle that raged in the early hours today.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed across the Sopore town and its adjacent area’s soon after the news regarding the encounter and the subsequent killing of the local militant spread in the area on early Friday morning.
