Thousands participate in funeral prayers of slain militants; Train services suspended

Thousands of people from different villages of Pulwama district Thursday converged to participate in the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, who were killed in an encounter with forces in the wee hours of Thursday in Kakapora village of the district.

Three rounds of funeral prayers were held for Sheeraz at Jamia Masjid Awantipora and his ancestral Aghazipora village located across the Jhelum river.

Pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans were raised during the funeral of Majid and Shariq in Kakapora and Sheeraz Ahmad in Padgampora area of Awantipora.

In Kakapora, joint funeral prayers were held for Majid and Shariq.

Meanwhile, all trains running in Kashmir valley were suspended Thursday due to protests following the militant killings.

“We have suspended train services between Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north for security reasons,”’ a railway official said. Similarly, train run from Badgam-Srinagar-Pulwama-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region has also been suspended.

“We have received directions from the authorities and police to suspend train service in the valley for security reasons,”’ he said, adding that the service will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the police.
