Days after the killing of Sarpanch at Wanpoh Islamabad, at least 161 village heads including 49 Sarpanchas, 111 Panchas and one Deputy Sarpanch from three districts of South Kashmir declared their resignation through public address system in their respective areas on Saturday. Besides, a Congress Block president from Qazigund also submitted his resignation before the party leadership.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that at least 81 village heads from district Kulgam announced their resignation on Saturday. These village heads informed the people about their decision  through the public address system. The village heads who resigned from district Kulgam belong to scores of hamlets including Chowgam, Banghal, Manigam, Damjan, Laram Ganjipora, Yarhol Babapora, Sadoora, Kandipahari, Sanigam, Bugam, Poniwah, Wanpoh, Sadoora and Dhanhu Bogand. Besides a Deputy Sarpanch from Sopat Tengapora Reyaz Ahmed Rather also announced his resignation.

“I want to live in peace. I had contested elections to serve people but government disappointed us and used us as pawns,” Rather told CNS.

In South Kashmir’s Pulwama districts, the 51 village heads who resigned from their posts are from Chakoora, Pinglin, Pohu, Kamrazipora, Gadoora, Inder, Chandigam, Palapora and Qasbayar areas. Similarly, five village representatives from Rebin Gundbehram and Saidpora areas of  Shopian district declared their resignation on Saturday.

In Islamabad district, at least 24 village heads resigned from their posts. These village heads are from Behramshah, Muniward, Lalan, Turk Tachloo, Chicharpora, Gundpora, Jablipora, Kehribal, Kadpora Achabal, Nowgam Achabal and Palapora.
