SRINAGAR

At a time when all the outlets of cellular companies are shut from past fortnight in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the threatening posters of ‘fresh’ militant outfit ‘Lashkar-e-Islam’ have surfaced in the town asking telecommunication companies to wind up their business in the town.

The posters also have directed the land owners to dismantle the mobile towers that have been erected on their land.

Holding telecommunication companies exclusively responsibly for the killing and arrested of top militant commanders in the town, the outfit has asked these companies to close their business in the town. “We warn these telecommunication companies to close all networking services, close their offices and stop recharging services as well. We warn the retailers as well to stop recharging the subscribers within seven days,” the posters that appeared in certain parts of town including main chowk and Rahim Sahab area read.

The posters that carry the name of some Saifullah claim that land owners will be shot dead in case they don’t make towers non-functional.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that the posters surfaced during evening hours while a patrolling party of Army and Special Operation Group appeared in Rahim Sahib area and seized the identity cards of some shopkeepers. These shopkeepers were questioned on spot and were later instructed to present themselves before SOG camp Sopore. Reports said that none of the shopkeepers visited the camp on Saturday.

Pertinently, unidentified militants had threatened the staff of three cellular companies of dire consequences after a “hi-tech communication device” which they had installed on a tower of the company at Badambagh Sopore town went missing. Since May 1, 2015 all the outlets of cellular companies are locked.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, Syed Javid Mujtaba Geelani told CNS that they will call the representatives of all the cellular companies and will persuade them to open up their outlets. “Lashkar-e-Islam is not any militant organization. It is a mischief and we are investigating the matter and will trace those who have pasted these threatening posters,” he said.
