SRINAGAR: Three soldiers and a civilian were injured in an ongoing encounter that broke out between militants and government forces at Gawas village of Karan Verinag area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Friday.

Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter

The official said during exchange of fire, three soldiers and a civilian have received injuries while as the operation is underway in the area.

He identified one of the injured soldier as Amandeep and injured civilian as Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohidin Malik, who has received bullet injury in left thigh.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet said that the condition of all injured are stated to be stable.

“#AnantnagEncounterUpdate: In the initial exchange of fire,  three army personnel & one civilian got injured. All the injured were immediately airlifted to 92 base hospital #Srinagar for treatment & are stated to be stable. #Operation going on,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
