SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have arrested three persons with Trillium Govanianum (endangered medicinal herb) at Qalamabad area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A police spokesman in a statement said that on June 26, 2022, a police party of Police Station Qalamabad while on naka checking duty at Lach, Qalamabad, stopped one vehicle bearing Regd. No. JK09/2155.

“The persons in the vehicle were identified as Shafiq Ahmad Khan S/o Ali Mohammad, Reyaz Ahmad Khan S/o Aziz Rehman Khan both residents of Mankal and Jameel Ahmad Mir S/o Gh Mohammad R/o Check Sanzipora,” said the spokesman.

He said that on search, the endangered medicinal herb Trillium Govanianum (Local name Tri Patri) weighing around 50 kg was recovered from their possession.

“In this relation, case FIR No. 39/2022 U/s 26 Forest Act, 379-IPC stands registered in PS Qalamabad and an investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
