SRINAGAR: Jammu and Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three Ramban residents along with a “heroin-like substance” in Banihal.

A police spokesman in a statement identified the trio as Tanveer Ahmad alias Jimmy, son of Bashir Ahmad Choudhary, a resident of Banihal, and Uzair Ahmed Dar, son of Abdul Majeed Dar and Adil Ahmed Dar, son of Mohammad Sharief Dar-both residents of Darpura area of tehsil Banihal- were apprehended during routine checking at main market Banihal by a police party from police Station Banihal led by Inspector Wasim Mehraj.

During checking, 30 grams of heroin-like substance were recovered from Tanveer’s possession, who, as per police, confessed that he was illegally selling the banned drug to the youth of J&K, said the spokesman.

In this connection, a case FIR No. 17/2021 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Banihal and investigation has been taken up, he said.

The arrests, as well as the recovery, was made on the directions of Inspector Nayeem Ul Haq, SHO PS Banihal under the supervision of Ashish Gupta, Dy SP (SDPO )Banihal, Rajni Sharma, Addl SP Ramban and overall supervision of Haseeb Ur Rehman, SSP Ramban, said a police spokesman in a statement.
