SRINAGAR: Three children, including a girl, lost their lives after drowning in a pond in the Jourian area of Akhnoor in Jammu district on Saturday, officials said.
The tragic incident took place in Dhanwal village when the children reportedly entered the pond to take a bath. During the process, they slipped into deep water and drowned before help could reach them.
The deceased have been identified as Chand (12), Abhishek (11) and Bhagwan Sahai (8). According to officials, all three belonged to families of migrant labourers from Rajasthan who were employed at a brick kiln in the village.
Police, with the assistance of locals, recovered the bodies from the pond and shifted them to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
