Three persons were killed after swept away by an avalanche near Gudkhamb point at Aru in Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

An official said that during snow clearance on Pahalgam -Aru road, the JCB with three persons on board came under an avalanche near Gudkhamb point.

He said that one person who was retrieved in injured conditions and was admitted to district hospital Anantnag where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Bodies of two other missing persons were also retrieved by the rescue team,” said an official.

The deceased were identified as Javed Ahmed Sheikh son of  Mohammad Shaban Sheikh of Frislan Pahalgam, Ilyas Ahmed Shah son of Abdul Gani Shah of Midoora Tral and Abdul Aziz Khatana son of Mohammad Amin Khatana of Manilan Pahalgam.

Police Version

Police on Friday late evening issued following a statement said that today at about 1615 hours the Police Station Pahalgam received reliable information that one JCB along with its driver and two boarded persons came under an avalanche at Gudkham Aru.

A rescue team of Pahalgam Police headed by SHO retrieved all the three people who were hit by an Avalanche in Aru Pahalgam.

Two out of the three were declared brought dead while the third who had been referred to Anantnag hospital succumbed later.
