In view of the closure of Srinagar-Jammu Highway, J&K police at Awantipora received complaints that shopkeepers were selling goods especially essential commodities on exorbitant rates.

“Accordingly, police launched a special drive against the unscrupulous shopkeepers. During the market checking six shopkeepers who were selling goods without rate list and at exorbitant rates were arrested in Pampore and Awantipora area,” J&K Police spokesperson said on Monday evening.

Police have registered six cases under essential commodities act against them and seized expired soft drinks and domestic gas cylinders which were being used for commercial purposes as well.
