Police on Friday claimed to have seized illegal timber and arrested the accused driver in north Kashmir’s Handwara town.
A police spokesperson in a statement said: “During the intervening night of 19/20 July 2018, a police party of Police Post Zachaldara laid a Naka at Bazaar Zachaldara near Army camp.”
Meanwhile, a Tata mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK04 1917 was stopped for checking. During checking, illegal timbers sawn deodar consisting of 54 logs were found in the vehicle.
“Driver of the vehicle identified as Ghulam Rasool Khan son of Shar Ahmad Khan resident of Yamlar Zachaldara was arrested while as two accused persons who were identified as Ali Mohd Bhat son of Ghulam Mohd Bhat resident of Zachaldara and Mohd Aslam Qureshi son of Abdul Hamid Qurashi resident of Yemlar Zachaldara fled away from the spot taking the advantage of darkness,” the police spokesman said.
Timber was seized and case FIR No. 293/2018 under section 379 RPC, 6 FA stands registered. Further investigation is going on, said police spokesman.
