Mehbooba held one-on-one meeting with PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting revived the hopes that PDP and BJP will again form the coalition government in J&K.

Sources told Kashmir Life that former minister and PDP’s Bijbehara lawmaker, Ab Rehman Veeri, proposed name of Mehbooba Mufti as party leader. “it was seconded by Altaf Bukhari,” they said.

PDP’s senior leader and North Kashmir MP, Muzaffar Hussain Baig conducted the meeting.

Given the stalement in the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, rumours were making rounds in Srinagar whether Mehbooba would be elected party’s legislative party leader or not as she is not member of state legislative assembly.

“There was ground work done by party and it was up to our lawmakers who elected Ms Mehbooba,” PDP insiders said.

After she was elected as leader of legislative party, Mehbooba is set to become the first woman CM of J&K. “She thanked party, her lawmakers for electing her as pasty legislative leader,” the sources said adding, “she said that BJP is very supportive of us.”
