KL Report

Acknowledging the potential of SKIMS Medical College to carry out advanced academic courses, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has granted permission for the college to undertake MS Orthopaedics course for academic year 2013-14.

According to SKIMS Public Relations Officer, two students will be able to benefit annually by taking up the course.

“However, the intake capacity is likely to be enhanced given the prominence of SKIMS and contribution besides fulfillment of other criteria”, the officer told KNS.

The officer said the department of Orthopaedics is equipped with latest infrastructure. “Besides, it has well trained faculty with super specialization in the field of orthopedics. The department conducts special surgical procedures of spinal surgery and Arthroscopy”.

Director SKIMS Dr  Showkat Zargar lauded and congratulated the department, Dean and the Academic Section for being granted permission to conduct the course.

He said SKIMS will ensure to provide best academic culture with advanced facilities in related fields. “This is a major achievement on part of SKIMS as the State has less number of orthopaedics available and this will encourage more students to come to the field which will be a great service to the patient care system”, he added.

It is pertinent to mention that SKIMS also runs postgraduate courses in Gynaecology and Obstetrics apart from Postgraduate DNB courses in Ophthalmology, ENT, Pediatrics and Psychiatry.
