SRINAGAR: People’s Alliance For Gupkar Declaration Vice President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti after coming out of the PM’s all-party meeting said she told the Prime Minister that the people are “humiliated by the unconstitutional, illegal and immoral way in which the Article 370 was read down.”
“People won’t accept it,” Mehbooba said that she told the meeting.
“People of J&K are in a difficult situation since August 5, 2019. They’re angry, upset & emotionally shattered,” she said.
The former chief minister further said, “She told the Prime Minister that they will restore Article 370 legally, constitutionally and peacefully.”
“It was given to us by the constitution of India, PM Nehru, and Sardar Patel,” she said.
“It might take months or years but we’ll restore Article 370 in J&K as it’s a matter of our identity. We didn’t get it from Pakistan, it was given to us by our country,” Mehbooba said.
Mehbooba said she asked the Prime Minister to talk to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“I congratulated him that they talked to Pakistan & it led to a ceasefire and decrease in infiltration. For peace in J&K, if they’ve to talk to Pakistan again, they should. They should also talk to Pakistan as it’s a source of employment for many,” she said.
Mehbooba added that she also talked about the release of political prisoners and that domicile, land, jobs, and mineral resources of Jammu and Kashmir must be secured. She also said that a package must be given to traders, transporters, people associated with tourism, who have faced serious losses in the last two years.
“The people of J&K are under stress. They are being arrested even for breathing. I told the Prime Minister” Mehbooba said.
