Civil Society of Kashmir has activated itself against any possible lease extension of Tosa Maidan, firing range in favour of Army and it has decided to hold a sit in at Municipal Park, Srinagar on Wednesday which will be attended by Tosa Maidan Bachaw Committee members as well.

Tosa Maidan, area of Central Kashmir is under the occupation of Army and it is being used as a firing range. There are almost 60 firing ranges of Army throughout India and 12 of them are in Jammu and Kashmir.

Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS), a civil society group has already appealed people to intensify the agitation against any possible lease extension of Tosa Maidan to army.

KCSDS orgainsed a seminar in which civil society members, activists, victims and Tosa Maidan Bachaw Committee members said that there was a dire need to mobilize people to stand against the possible lease extension.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said on Tuesday that the committee led by Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday would look for alternate firing range for Army in place of Tosa Maidan.

Rather was addressing a public rally at Khansahib in Budgam district.
