The Office of the Assistant Director Tourism, Gulmarg, in an advisory on Thursday, said no trekking will be permitted in these areas without prior approval from the competent authority. Officials clarified that the restrictions apply even to short treks in lower regions unless specifically authorised.

The advisory warned that violations would be at the sole risk and responsibility of the individuals concerned.

Copies of the order have been circulated to the Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police of Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, besides the Director and Joint Director Tourism Kashmir, and the Joint Director Information Kashmir, for wide publicity.

Signed by the Assistant Director Tourism, Gulmarg, the notice underlined that the measure is a precautionary step aimed at preventing accidents in vulnerable terrain during unstable weather.
