In a first, Tourism department held Ice-climbing event in Pahalgam in which 20 ice climbers form the valley participated.
Director Tourism Mehmood Shah told KNS that for the first time in valley, the tourism department held such an event in Pahalgam.
“Pahalgam is suitable place for such an event as there are several waterfalls there where this craft can be practiced. Today’s practice was for coming events.” Shah said.
He said that climbers having adequate skills used specialized equipment for their practice.
“Such events can be held in Pahalgam only because of its vertical waterfalls that freeze and form a solid base for ice climbing,” he said.
