SRINAGAR: Authorities suspended vehicular movement on Wednesday along major highways, including the Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh highways, due to worsening weather conditions in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials reported that heavy rains caused mudslides and shooting stones in several locations in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the suspension of traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. The closure is in effect until further clearance, with efforts underway to restore traffic.

Additionally, the movement of vehicles on the Srinagar-Leh highway was suspended due to avalanches near Zojila Pass in the Kargil area. Following fresh snowfall, avalanches occurred near Bajrin-Nallah and Shitan Nallah. Authorities have deployed personnel and machinery to clear the road.

As a precautionary measure, upward traffic on the Zojila axis was not allowed due to the snowfall and avalanches. However, standard vehicles have been cleared for passage on Zojila Pass. (KNO)
