SRINAGAR: The Traffic Police Rural Jammu have issued an advisory for commuters as ongoing rainfall and snowfall have rendered roads hazardous due to slipperiness, landslides, and blockages at multiple locations.
Officials have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, slow down, and use heavy gear while driving uphill and downhill. They have also advised the use of low-beam headlights to improve visibility in foggy conditions and maintaining a greater distance between vehicles to prevent accidents.
“Sudden acceleration should be avoided, as it can cause skidding or loss of control,” the advisory stated. “Motorists should be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists, and avoid flood-prone, muddy, and snowbound areas.”
The advisory further emphasised the importance of ensuring vehicle tyres, brakes, and wipers are in good condition. Travellers have been urged to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, first aid kit, and snacks, in case they become stranded.
Commuters are advised to confirm road conditions before undertaking journeys by contacting Traffic Control Units through the following helpline numbers: Traffic Police Control Room Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103), Traffic Police Rural Jammu (9484321021), Traffic Helpline Samba-Kathua (8899041447), and Traffic Helpline Rajouri-Poonch (9419324490).
