SRINAGAR: Traffic movement on a key stretch of Srinagar’s Boulevard Road will be restricted for five hours on October 1 to facilitate the “Run for Unity” Kashmir Marathon-2026, the Traffic Police said in an advisory issued for the event.
The restriction will remain in force from 6 am to 11 am on Thursday on Boulevard Road between Lalit Ghat and Habbak, as the marathon is scheduled to be held from the Police Golf Course Lake View to Duck Park and back.
The Traffic Police said a number of VIPs and participants from different sections of society are expected to attend the event and issued diversions to prevent congestion and inconvenience to motorists.
Traffic travelling from R.M. Bagh towards Gupkar and Lalit will be diverted through Badyari Dalgate for onward movement. No traffic other than marathon participants will be allowed on Gupkar Road until the event concludes.
Motorists travelling towards Nishat, Shalimar and Harwan have been advised to avoid the Boulevard Road corridor and use the alternative route via Dalgate, Rainawari, Hazratbal, Zakoora, Burzahama, Tailbal, Chandpora and Shalimar.
Similarly, vehicles travelling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat and adjoining areas towards Lal Chowk have been advised to take the Shalimar-Chandpora-Tailbal-Burzahama-Zakoora-Hazratbal route instead of the Nishat-Boulevard Road axis.
Motorists coming from Gulab Bagh, Zakoora, Naseembagh, Habbak and adjoining areas have been asked to use the Habbak-Dargah-Rainawari route to reach Lal Chowk rather than the Foreshore Road.
The advisory also directs marathon participants to park their vehicles only at designated locations. Participants have been instructed to use Zabarwan Park and the Botanical Garden for parking and not leave vehicles along roadsides.
The Traffic Police warned that vehicles found parked improperly would be towed.
Emergency vehicles will be permitted to take the shortest available route, while members of the public requiring traffic assistance have been asked to contact the Traffic Police Control Room on 103.
