Authorities Saturday threw open the historic Mughal road for vehicular movement a day after it was closed down in wake of fresh snowfall.

Pir-Ki-Gali and other areas received heavy snowfall on Friday forcing authorities to shut down the highway of the road which connects Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu. But in the wee hours, snow-clearance machines were pressed into service removing the two feet thick snow, official said.

This is the second time in less than two weeks that the road was closed due to snowfall. Last week, the road was closed due to heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions.

Meanwhile, traffic on 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway is also plying.
