Train Crushes Commuter, Cop Survived With Injuries

SRINAGAR: A policeman was injured after he unsuccessfully tried to save the life of a man who was on the track when the train was moving.

Railways Police source said at about 4 pm at track km 49.9 falling in the jurisdiction of railway police station Kakpore, an unidentified civilian was standing on the track. One SPO, Shabir Ahmad (No 126) who was on track duty at the location tried to save the civilian as he saw the train moving towards him. “But unfortunately, both of them got hit by the moving train,” a senior officer said. “The civilian died on the spot and SPO got seriously injured and shifted to hospital and finally refered to Srinagar for advance treatment.”

Police said they are trying the ascertain the identity of the slain civilian and investigate if he had attempted suicide. “Further investigations are underway,” said an officer, adding that the identity of the deceased is being established.
