Train Derails in Delhi, Major Mishap Averted

   

SRINAGAR: A major railway mishap was narrowly averted on Thursday afternoon when a coach of Train No. 64419, operating between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Ghaziabad, derailed near Shivaji Bridge station in central Delhi.

According to Deccan Chronicle, Northern Railway officials confirmed that the fourth coach of the passenger train went off the tracks. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

The derailment, which occurred in one of the busiest suburban sections of the national capital, caused significant disruption to rail services. Several trains were delayed or diverted as authorities launched immediate restoration and safety operations.

Rescue teams, including technical and track maintenance personnel, were swiftly dispatched to the site. Heavy-duty cranes were employed to re-rail the affected coach. Senior railway officials also visited the location to oversee the restoration work, which continued into the evening, allowing partial resumption of train traffic.

A preliminary inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the derailment. Northern Railway officials stated that factors such as track failure, mechanical fault, or signal malfunction were being considered as potential causes.

According to Deccan Chronicle, the Railways has assured that a high-level investigation will follow to ensure accountability and to prevent future occurrences. In the aftermath, public announcements were made at major stations to inform commuters of delays and alternative arrangements.
