Train service remained suspended for security reasons for the fourth day on Thursday in the Kashmir valley following the shutdown called by JRL against the killing on scholar turned militant Sabzar Sofi and his aid in Nowgam gunfight.

“Train services between Banihal (Ramban district of Jammu region) and Baramulla (Kashmir valley) were suspended as a precautionary measure,” officials said.

We have suspended all train for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, a senior railway official told Kashmir Life.

“We are acting on the advice of police,” he said, adding the decision to suspend all train runs was taken in the interest of the safety of passengers and railway property.

A fresh advisory was received last night from the police and administration that no train will run in the valley, he said.

This is the 10th time that train service has been suspended in the Kashmir valley partially or fully since October 8, when first of the four-phase Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polling was held.
