Reports reaching here said that a group of Hizbul Mujahideen militants, comprising three to five militants, is engaged in the encounter. In the first exchange, there is one reported militant casualty as three soldiers are reportedly injured.

Sources said that the body of one militant was recovered and search is on for others. “The one killed militant is a Pakistani national,” reports said.

Reports suggest that special forces of army have been deployed to carry out a combing operation in the area. A senior government officer said that though the encounter sites are supposed to have section 144 imposed, they have imposed curfew restrictions around the town to prevent people from getting closer to the spot.

Pertinently, curfew has been imposed in the area after civilian protesters gathered around the encounter site.

A portion of the house where militants are engaged has been brought down by blasting it.

As the news about encounter started making rounds, there were various protests reported from across Kashmir, mostly in south Kashmir. At a few places the police had to chase the protesters away. At a few places, tear smoke shells were used. There are very wild rumours around about the encounter.

Senior police officials contacted to offer details about the encounters did not pick the phone.
