Pursuing credible leads regarding the presence of militants in Tral area of District Pulwama, Army, CRPF and Police on Tuesday afternoon jointly launched searches in the Hyena area of Tral, a police spokesman said.

A spokesperson of Police in a statement said: “As the searches were going on, militants fired on the joint search patrol of security forces, which was subsequently retaliated by the security forces leading to an encounter.”

“In the encounter, all the three militants were successfully neutralized by the security forces. The three militants killed in the encounter have been identified as Adil, Danish and Qasim. The third militant identified as Qasim is believed to be a Pakistani,” the spokesman said.

“The militants were affiliated with the proscribed organization JeM and it is learnt that they were the top commanders of JeM who were involved in a series of attacks on the civilians and the security establishments in recent times,” he said.

Moreover, weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from the site of encounter.

“Besides five security forces’ personnel also sustained injuries in the encounter and have been hospitalised and all are stable, “said police spokesman.

Police has registered a case in this matter and further investigation is going on.
