SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday issued following statement regarding encounter in south Kashmir’s Tral saying that during the intervening night of June 1, 2, on a specific input generated by Awantipora Police, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by SOG, 42 RR and CRPF 180 Bn at Saimoh Tral area of Police district Awantipora.

A police spokesman in a statement said that during the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the joint search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, two militants have been killed and their bodies have been retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliations of the slain militants is being ascertained,” said the spokesman.

“Besides some incriminating material the following arms/ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter AK rifle 02, Pistol  02, AK magazines 05, Pistol magazines 02, AK rounds = 80, Pistol rounds 10, Hand grenades 02,” he said.

“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes,” he added.

“Due to efforts of the Police and forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the encounter,” said the spokesman.

“In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Tral and investigation has been initiated,” he said.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
