Almost seven hours after the cabinet meeting concluded, the administrative reshuffle it ordered, has not been made public. There were more than 70 transfers.
Sources in the government said it may take some more time and the list may possibly be made public later tonight or on weekend. They said there were certain key issues that need to be taken care of, first.
One officer said while taking particular officers to certain positions, there were no immediate replacements provided to the departments. In one case, an officer was elevated to the position of Secretary and asked to hold two more positions which he already had.
Absence of Chief Secretary Iqbal Khanday was termed to be another factor responsible for the delay. Given the death of his nephew’s son on Thursday, Khanday could not attend the cabinet. Instead, B R Sharma substituted him in the cabinet.
When the list was finally approved by the cabinet, there were certain issues that were not tackled by the cabinet because they had no in-puts. This is termed to be the main factor for the delay, they said.
The reshuffle has touched various levels of the administration including a few secretaries, directors and Deputy Commissioners. Though certain names are available, Kashmir Life is not publishing it because it has no formal official confirmation. Another reason for not using the “known transfers” is that there are certain changes being affected, even right now.
But this is not the first case in which the cabinet decision was delayed. Last similar reshuffle was made public almost with a delay of two days.
