SRINAGAR: The All J&K Transporters Welfare Association has deferred their proposed indefinite strike call from February 24 following an assurance from the government to consider their demands, including the rollback of toll tax.

Shabir Matt, Chairman of the association told news agency KDC that the decision to defer the strike call till further notice was taken following an assurance during a meeting by the Commissioner Secretary Transport to consider the issues, including rollback of toll charges and hike in fare tariffs.

He said Transporters associated with the association, which had called for the strike from February 24, had deferred their decision following this.

Earlier, the Transporters association had decided to indefinitely keep their vehicles off the roads across the country from February 24, accusing the government of failing to take any action on their demands. Their main demands are to rollback toll tax besides a review on hike in fare tariffs.
