SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday said 33 water supply schemes are currently operational in Trehgam constituency, while 13 of its 39 villages continue to face drinking water shortages.
Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana, replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Mir Saifullah in the Legislative Assembly, said 26 villages have adequate drinking water facilities, while the remaining 13 are being supplied water through tankers as required.
Rana said new water supply schemes for most of the areas facing shortages are under execution under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and other programmes.
Under the JJM, 15 water supply schemes involving an estimated cost of Rs 97.71 crore have been taken up in the constituency, the minister said. Three of these schemes have been completed, while 12 are still incomplete despite achieving more than 85 per cent physical progress.
Against the total estimated cost, Rs 58.88 crore has so far been spent on the JJM schemes, Rana said.
He also said three water supply schemes have been taken up under NABARD and UT Capex. Of these, the Water Supply Schemes (WSS) at Gushi and Laderwan are at the final stage of completion and are expected to be commissioned soon.
The minister said proposals for covering or augmenting water supply to left-out habitations have also been included under programmes including UT Capex, district Capex, SASCI, VVP and DA-JUGA, with the aim of achieving 100 per cent household coverage.
Rana said the Jal Shakti Department was taking measures to address drinking water issues in the constituency and would continue monitoring the situation to ensure adequate and uninterrupted water supply as per prescribed standards.
