SRINAGAR: With just over an hour remaining before his self-imposed deadline, Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, stepping back from planned military action.

The decision followed direct appeals from Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military chief Asim Munir, who urged restraint and requested that the United States halt strikes scheduled for Tuesday night.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the suspension of military operations is conditional on Iran agreeing to the complete, immediate, and secure reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
He said the United States had already achieved its military objectives and was making significant progress toward a long-term peace agreement with Iran. Trump also revealed that a 10-point proposal received from Iran is being considered a viable framework for negotiations.
According to Trump, most contentious issues between the two sides have been resolved, and the two-week pause is intended to allow time to finalize and formalize the agreement, which he said could lead to broader peace in the Middle East.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also acknowledged Pakistan’s mediation efforts, thanking Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for helping de-escalate tensions.
