SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that work on the long-pending Tulbul Navigation Project and the plan to divert water from the Chenab River to supply drinking water to Jammu is expected to begin soon.
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, Abdullah stated that the Union Territory government is coordinating with the Centre to initiate the projects following the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.
He said the government is currently focusing on two key initiatives: the Tulbul Navigation Project near Sopore and a scheme to lift water from the Chenab River near Akhnoor to strengthen Jammu’s drinking water supply.
The Chief Minister added that the Chenab water supply project had earlier been submitted to the Asian Development Bank for funding but could not move forward because of restrictions linked to the treaty.
