Residents of twin villages of Balakote in Poonch district Saturday protested over the non-availability of water.

Reports said that local populace from Middle Dhargloon and Jaran Wali Gali protested over the non-availability of potable water, which according to them is an issue for many years now.

Alleging the lackadaisical approach from PHE department, the locals said that despite bringing the issue to the notice of the concerned officials on many occasions nothing significant has been done even after all these years.”

“We are solely relying on a natural water source that gets dried up frequently and at times, when there is rainfall the water, becomes muddy, they locals said while adding that children and old people have developed health complications by consuming the muddy water,” the report quoted a local protestor as saying.

“The PHE department had even installed a pipeline few years before but over the time the pipes developed cracks and no one from the department seems to be moved by it”, they said.

Meanwhile, the locals have sought intervention from Governor Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik in the matter. “We hope that Honorable Governor will look into the matter to mitigate our sufferings”, the locals said.
