SRINAGAR: Police have arrested two persons and recovered charas from their possession during a patrolling operation in the Mirgund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrests were made by a team from Police Station Anantnag during routine patrolling near Rehmat Alam Masjid in Mirgund. The personnel intercepted two individuals and carried out a search, during which a quantity of charas was allegedly recovered, police said.
The accused have been identified as Uzair Ashraf Wani, son of Mohammad Ashraf Wani, and Mujtaba Mehraj, son of Mehraj Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Sarnal, Anantnag.
Police said an FIR, numbered 291/2026, has been registered at Police Station Anantnag under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
An investigation has been initiated to establish the source of the recovered contraband and determine whether the accused have links with a wider drug distribution network.
Anantnag Police said it would continue taking strict legal action against those involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the district.
