SRINAGAR: An army man was injured in an ongoing encounter at Pandoshan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.

An official said that during the initial exchange of firing one army soldier received injuries and has been removed to a hospital for treatment.

Earlier, a police spokesman said that the two civilians were injured after militants “fired upon civilians and tried to escape”.

“Both have been airlifted to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment with the condition of one of them critical,” police said.

The gunfight started on Monday evening after a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation on a specific input.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the target spot, the hiding militants fired upon the joint forces leading to an encounter.
