A male leopard died mysteriously in the Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary on Monday night. Reports reaching Kashmir Life said that the animal died a “tragic death” and its demise was “shrouded with mystery.”
However, when contacted, officials of the Wildlife department said that the leopard was “too old” and died a natural death.
“It was in captivity for more than 17 years,” the official added. “It was under treatment for many days in wake of its old and ailing condition. It breathed its last yesterday.”
Pertinently, a major fire engulfed the famed Sanctuary two days ago burning down vast expanse of forest area near Charsbal to smoldering debris. The cause of the fire is still unknown and the department is trying to ascertain the reason, officials added.
