Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered charas from their possession.

“Police is taking proactive steps against the peddling of drugs in northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district targeting those involved in drug dealings,” said the police spokesman in a statement.

A police spokesman in a statement said that two persons were arrested today by the police at a checkpoint for drug supply offences.

“Both the accused have been taken to the local police station for further investigation and remain in custody. A case under relevant sections stands registered in the matter,” he said.

“Officers at the checkpoint have seized 650 grams of charas from these two accused individuals identified as Shabir Ahmed Reshi son of Ghulam Qadir Reshi resident of Buthoo, Bandipora and Ishfaq Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat resident of Bagh, Bandipora,” said police spokesman in a  statement.

“Police has resolved to deal robustly with those seeking to peddle drugs in our society. Our consistent action against such anti-social elements should encourage the locals to come forward with any information pertaining to drug peddling in their neighbourhood,” he added.

“We reassure the community members that our efforts to end the menace of drug addiction shall continue,”a police spokesman in a statement said.
