Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Ganderbal, Contraband Recovered

   

SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 100 bottles of Codeine Phosphate during a naka checking operation within the jurisdiction of Police Post Shadipora.

Acting on the directions of the SSP Ganderbal and under the supervision of the Dy SP Headquarters Ganderbal, a police party signalled a vehicle (Ertiga) bearing registration number JK01BB-1295, which was travelling from Shalhar towards Guzhama, to stop late on Thursday evening. The driver attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended by the naka party, police said.

During the search of the vehicle, officers recovered 100 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, which were subsequently seized. The driver was identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Batwina. His co-accused, Mudasir Ahmad Hajam, son of Abdul Hameed Hajam, a resident of Arampora, Ganderbal, was also arrested on the spot, officials added.

A case under FIR No. 61/2026 has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is under way.

Ganderbal Police said it remains committed to its sustained drive against the drug menace and appealed to the public to cooperate and share information to help eradicate the social evil.
