SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances during a checkpoint operation.
A police party from Police Post Wagoora, led by the in-charge of the post, intercepted two suspicious individuals at a checkpoint established at Mangam Wagoora Crossing. The accused were identified as Abdul Qayoom Lone, son of Ghulam Hassan Lone of Kalantra Bala, and Suraj Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh of Sheikhpora Kreeri.
During a personal search, police recovered a heroin-like substance weighing eight grams from Lone and two grams from Sheikh. Cash amounting to Rs 22,500 and Rs 500 was also seized from their possession, respectively.
Police said a case under FIR No. 90/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kreeri under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said it remains committed to eradicating the drug menace from the district and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling or other anti-social activities with the nearest police station.
