Two Drug Peddlers Booked Under PIT NDPS Act in Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: In an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society, police have booked two notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Anantnag and Kulgam after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authorities.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “In Anantnag, the accused, Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, son of Showkat Ahmad Mir and a resident of Sirhama Srigufwara, was found actively involved in drug peddling, posing a significant threat to public health and safety. Following a thorough investigation and the collection of substantial evidence, necessary approvals were obtained from the competent authority for his detention under the PIT NDPS Act. In accordance with legal procedures, he has been lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, preventing him from continuing his illegal activities.”

In Kulgam, another notorious drug peddler, Ghulam Nabi Wagay, son of Ghulam Ahmad Wagay and a resident of Gundipora, Qazigund, has been booked under the PIT NDPS Act after formal detention orders were obtained from the competent authority. He has been lodged in District Jail Udhampur, police said.

“Wagay is a habitual offender involved in multiple cases, including FIR No. 02/2023 and FIR No. 27/2023 of Police Station Kund. Despite being repeatedly placed under preventive measures, he continued his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a grave threat to society, particularly the youth. He is a key figure in the narcotics trade, procuring drugs from various sources and selling them at higher prices, primarily targeting the youth of Kund and adjacent areas,” police said.
