Two drug peddlers booked under PSA in north Kashmir: Police


Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have booked two notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act (PSA) in north Kashmir’s Handwara town.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “Handwara police had earlier seized contraband substances from their possession and cases under relevant sections of law already stands registered against them in Police Station Vilgam.”
“Accordingly the cases were duly processed and the arrested drug peddlers were booked under Public Safety Act after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities,” said the spokesman.

He said that they have been identified as Abdul Hameed Rather resident of Amargarh Tarathpora Vilgam and Pervaz Ahmed Malik resident of Daril Payeen Vilgam. Both the drug peddlers have been lodged in district Jail Baramulla and Anantnag respectively.

“It is pertinent to mention here that, Handwara Police have arrested 15 notorious drug peddlers in the last one month who were involved in different drug peddling offences,” he said.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he added.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” said the police spokesman in a statement.
