SRINAGAR: In a decisive move against drug peddlers and to combat the scourge of drugs in society, police on Saturday said that two ‘notorious’ drug smugglers have been booked under the PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

A Police spokesperson in a statement said, “The notorious drug smugglers, namely Irshad Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Pandithpora Bala Tangmarg, Baramulla, and Mohd Tajamul Masoodi, son of Badar-ud-Din Masoodi, a resident of Bagander Pampore, Pulwama, have been booked under the PIT-NDPS Act following the formal detention orders. The detained drug smugglers have been lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.”

“It is pertinent to mention that these drug smugglers have been implicated in numerous cases and were involved in facilitating the drug trade by supplying drugs to local youth in areas such as Solinda, Khaipora, Tangmarg, and others within the district. Despite facing charges in multiple FIRs, they persisted in their activities, continuing to promote drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth,” it reads.

“We urge the public that if you witness drug peddling or any other criminal activity in your vicinity, please do not hesitate to contact the nearest police station or dial 112. We call upon the people to cooperate with the police in combating the drug menace in society. We assure the community that the police will take stringent action against criminals in accordance with the law,” police said.
