SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two grenade throwers in south Kashmir’s Awantipora soon after they attacked forces party.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “Today at about 1610 hours militants lobbed two grenades on the security forces deployment near Sail Charsoo on National Highway. “

“The grenades, however, did not explode. The Bomb Disposal Squad was called in and both the grenades were picked up safely by the Bomb Disposal Squad after following security drill,’ the spokesman said.

“In this regard case FIR number 90/2020 U/S 307 IPC, 16,18,20 ULAP Act &  Section 3 of Explosive Substance Act stands registered at police station Awantipora,” he said.

“During the course of the investigation it came to fore that two persons were riding a white colour Apache bike who actually had lobbed grenades and were driving very fast,” he added.

“The area was cordoned immediately and during the search of the village Sail, the suspected white colour Apache bike was traced at about 100 meters away from the place of incident,” said a police spokesman in a statement.

“During a further search of the area, both the militants were arrested from village Sail Awantipora who had lobbed the grenades. They have been identified as Umer and  Zahid Yusuf Pala both resident of  Aloora Shopian,” he said.

“It is pertinent to mention here that both have been arrested within 04 hours of the incident. Further investigation/ questioning is going on,’ said a police spokesman in a statement.
