Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two militants affiliated with Hizb ul-Mujahideen outfit in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A police spokesman in a statement said that a joint team of police and army in Awantipora on a credible input arrested two militants along with arms and ammunition.
“At a Naka (checkpoint) established at Panzgam in Awantipora, Police and army intercepted two persons and during their checking recovered arms and ammunition from their possession which includes UBGL, grenades, live rounds and other incriminating materials,” said police spokesman in a statement.
“The duo have been identified as Jan Mohammad Sheikh son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh resident of Kaweni Dugripora and Nasir-ul-Islam son of Shabir Ahmad Shah resident of Panzgam,” he said.
“Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and preliminary investigation in the instant matter has revealed that the duo are affiliated with proscribed militant outfit Hizb ul-Mujahideen,” the spokesman said.
Further investigation in the instant matter is going on.
