SRINAGAR: The Army said on Sunday that two infiltrators met their demise as it, alongside the police, thwarted an infiltration attempt by heavily armed militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri area, situated in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“An infiltration attempt has been successfully foiled by the Security Forces in the Uri Sector, Baramulla. Acting upon precise intelligence from intelligence agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which indicated a potential infiltration in the Uri Sector by heavily armed terrorists from across the LoC, our troops were placed on high alert, and the counter-infiltration measures were fortified,” stated a spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence.

“Exploiting adverse weather conditions marked by continuous rainfall and poor visibility, a group of armed terrorists endeavored to infiltrate across the LoC. At approximately 3 pm, alert troops intercepted the group, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire,” the statement read. “An intense firefight continued until dusk, culminating in the elimination of two terrorists, while the remaining insurgents withdrew to the enemy side of the LoC, taking the deceased terrorists’ bodies with them.”

The region remained under constant surveillance throughout the night. On October 22, 23, a comprehensive search of the incident site was executed, uncovering evident clues and the discovery of an assortment of substantial military supplies, including two AK series rifles, six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets, and two blood-stained bags containing Pakistani and Indian currency notes, Pakistani medicines, and provisions.

According to the Army’s assessment, the recovery of two blood-stained bags suggests that at least two militants sustained severe injuries, compelling them to abandon their supplies and retreat across the LoC.

“Due to the unfavorable weather conditions, the search operation has been temporarily halted and will resume once the weather permits. The operation is currently in progress,” the statement concluded. (GNS)”
