SRINAGAR: Two people were injured in separate bear attacks in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts on Friday, officials said.
A woman was attacked by a bear in the Handoora area of Tral in Pulwama district. She was identified as Hajra Begum, wife of Ghulam Ahmad Khan and a resident of Handoora.
Begum was taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tral for treatment following the attack.
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a bear in an apple orchard at Sedow in Shopian district.
The injured man was identified as Sadiq Ahmad Thokar, son of Abdul Rahman and a resident of Sedow. He was shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Shopian for medical treatment.
The incidents have raised concern among residents, with locals in Handoora urging the Wildlife Department to take immediate preventive measures in view of increased bear movement in the area.
Authorities have taken cognisance of both incidents.
